If you pay the energy bill in your home and receive an eligible means-tested benefit you will now be in line for the £150 Warm Home Discount on energy bills.
This comes after the Government removed restrictions that previously excluded many who needed help with bills and means people in receipt of the following benefits can now claim the discount:
- Housing Benefit
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
- Income Support
- Pension Credit
- Universal Credit
To receive the £150 discount automatically you must make sure you are the named person on the electricity bill for your home by Sunday 24 August. This is because suppliers are relying on customers’ records as of that date to give the discount.
If you are on a pre-payment meter and use a key or card to top up, you will also need to ensure that your home’s account is registered in your name.
You might not be named on your home’s electricity bill if you have recently moved home or changed supplier.
Please contact your electricity supplier if you have any questions about who is the named person on the account for your home.
If you haven’t made sure your name is on the electricity bill by 24 August you will still be able to receive the discount if you are eligible, but you will need to wait for a letter about it to arrive later this year.
