If you live in a Southway property and are looking for work, you can apply for the Southway Academy and gain valuable skills and work experience across our teams.
The Southway Academy is a 4-week work and skills placement providing an insight into working in the social housing sector.
Places are limited and if you are selected to join the Academy, you will be invited to spend time at Southway experiencing a range of job roles across our departments. During this time you will receive skills training from established staff who are experienced in their field of work.
Here are some examples of the learning activities you might be doing as part of the Southway Academy.
With the Housing Management team, you could be:
- Accompanying housing officers as they take properties from ‘Void’ to ‘Occupied’, learning about the legislative areas of housing.
- Assisting housing officers to prepare welcome packs and information which will enable new tenants to move into properties.
- Helping with estate walkabouts and discuss local issues such as antisocial behaviour.
With the Tenancy Support team, you could be:
- Assisting colleagues in assessing and enabling people to access support services run by Southway Housing Trust.
- Learning about projects such as the rough sleeper project and assist colleagues in supporting tenants to complete administrative tasks related to maintaining their tenancies.
With the Customer Hub Team, you could be:
- Learning how to make outbound calls to verify tenant information and take inbound calls responding to customer queries.
- Experiencing how it is to work with our reception team and learn more about the variety of queries which our customer contact teams support with on a daily basis.
In order to be considered you need to:
- Be a tenant or be living in a Southway property.
- Be 16+.
- Be eligible to work in the UK but not currently in employment.#
- Regularly attend the office during a four-week period to spend time with the various teams.
- Commit to learn and act in line with our values
Upon successful completion of the Southway academy you will automatically be put into a pool of potential recruits for future vacancies within Southway.
If you meet the minimum criteria for any vacancy we advertise band 3 or below, you will be guaranteed an interview for the role, and our team will support you each step of the way.
If you want to apply for the Southway Academy, please email us your name, home address, email address, telephone number, and tell us why you want to join the Southway Academy.
Send the email to employmentsupport@southwayhousing.co.uk by Monday 1 September and put Southway Academy in the title.
We hope to have tenants from the Academy in the office from early October.
Southway has committed to the 20% Movement. A project that aims to ensure Greater Manchester Housing associations are representative of the communities they serve by working towards a target of 20% of the workforce are social housing tenants. This will help to widen representation and to build stronger connections between the staff and the tenants they support.
We believe that by employing more people with lived experience of social housing, it will help us improve our services because our customers know our offer and understand the impact of good and bad service delivery on other customers.
