Following the recent disorder and violence up and down the country which has been deeply shocking and upsetting to see, we want to remind our tenants and communities of the support available.

We understand these types of events can affect everyone differently and some people may feel they need more support than others.

Southway proudly recognises and celebrates diversity across our communities and we take a firm stance on discrimination and all forms of behaviour motivated by hate.

We’re also an approved Hate Crime Reporting Centre and have legal powers to evict any of our tenants who are convicted of rioting anywhere in the UK as part of S99 of the ASB Crime & Policing Act.

Report it

We work in partnership with Manchester City Council (MCC), Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and other agencies to address hate crime and you can report a hate crime via Southway’s several Hate Crime Reporting Centres.

We also work with Stop Hate UK, a national organisation which provides 24-hour support to people affected by hate crime and discrimination. Call 0800 138 1625 or visit their website for more information.

If you're concerned about anti-social behaviour in your community or want to report an incident, please contact our Customer Hub on 0161 448 4200 or let us know online via our website.

Greater Manchester Victim Services (GMVS) are also on-hand to offer support to Greater Manchester residents affected by the riots. GMVS offers face-to-face, telephone and out-in-the-community support for victims and witnesses of crime, whether it's been reported to the police or not.

If you or any community groups you know have or are being significantly impacted by recent events, and would like additional support, you can contact GMVS on 0800 876 6155 (from 8am-6pm Monday to Friday, and 9am-5pm on Saturdays) or email GMVictims@catch-22.org.uk.

In an emergency where you are in immediate danger, or where there is a crime taking place, please call 999.

Misinformation online

We know that there's a lot of misinformation circulating at the moment, which is causing alarm and distress in our communities. We recommend that you visit GMP's X (formerly Twitter) and Bee in the Loop live communications to check for regular updates or important messages:

GMP has also released a statement to reassure members of the community of their dedication to ensuring residents are safe and protected from further disruption.

You can read the statement in full below or on GMP's website here, and we will continue to share any new and relevant messages on our social media.
