A statement from Greater Manchester Housing Providers (of which Southway is part) on tackling racism in support of the Black Lives Matter and in countering the inequalities which the COVID-19 impact has exposed in terms of disproportionality for for the BAME community.
As a partnership of housing providers with a collective commitment to equality and diversity in social housing provision across Greater Manchester, we want to express our solidarity with people in America standing up to racism and inequality.
The UK still has much to do to eradicate racism across our society and is a moment for all of us to reflect on this and commit to taking positive action to listen, learn and contribute to creating a society where injustice is challenged.
We will work to ensure that the Public Health England report of the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on BAME colleagues and residents is at the forefront of our response to the pandemic.
We will focus on the safety of our colleagues and residents and seek to understand what measures can be taken to counter this disproportionate impact.
We believe by embracing diversity and working together as allies to counteract racism and all other inequalities, will create more resilient communities and better places to live and work.
We commit to playing our part in tackling racism and other inequalities which blight the lives of colleagues and residents.
