We want to help young people get a good start to working life. Thanks to funding from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority Community Grants programme, we can launch Youth Elevate to help them reach for the skies.
Youth Elevate is a 3-month programme of bespoke support for 16-24-year-olds who are not in education, employment or full- time training who have been facing multiple barriers. These could include exclusion from school and mental health issues.
Through 1-2-1 support with a Youth coach, the project will build confidence, encourage engagement, remove barriers, upskill, and bring participants closer to employment through life skills, employability sessions, work experience placements, and mentoring.
All participants will receive:
- Bus fares to coaching sessions and work placement (if applicable) for the duration of the programme
- Credit Union membership
- Personal allowance to cover items such as interview clothes, paying for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, and Construction Skills Certification Scheme card for construction industry
- Access to a range of support services provided by Southway Housing
Youth Elevate work placements
As part of the programme, 13-week work placements for up to 21 hours, paid at the National Living Wage, will be offered to those taking part who are eligible and ready to start their work journey.
Placements will be in the following sectors:
Housing, Administration, Digital, Volunteer, Social Media, Health Care, Clinical, Construction and Hospitality.
Where possible placements will lead to apprenticeships or more permanent paid employment.
Participants will have the opportunity to gain accredited learning including:
- First aid
- Health and social care
- Food hygiene and more.
